Equalization (EQ)

Acoustic Musician’s guide to Sound Reinforcement and Live Recording - Ch 8, Pg 116 - 117

Graphic EQ - an EQ where equalization frequencies are usually fixed. Physical or graphical sliders allow for a visual representation of the various equalization points and amounts

Parametric EQ - an EQ where the equalization is tunable to the desired frequencies. Width or "Q" of the affected frequences is often changable too.

Low Pass Filter - a filter that removes only the frequencies above the cutoff frequency leaving lower frequencies unchanged.

High Pass Filter - a filter that removes only the frequencies below the cutoff frequency leaving the higher frequencies unchanged.

Band Pass Filter - a filter that removes frequences above and below the cutoff frequency. A Parametric EQ is a type of band pass filter.

Band Reject/Notch Filter - All the frequencies within a range are attenuated.

Shelf EQ - an equalizer where all the frequences above or below a cutoff frequency are added or removed.
